Gediminas Pranckevicius - Senior Artist

Few months ago, the well-known Lithuanian illustrator Gediminas Pranckevičius joined our team. Here is more information about him, his work and inspirations.

-Your creativity is impressive when did you start drawing? Do you have other relatives with this artistic flair?

Thank you. I started to draw when I was a child and later I studied at Vilnius Academy of Arts with a specialization in fresco painting. I grew up having several family members working in creative fields. My grandmother used to work at the drama theater and my mother at a mask theater for children and an orchestra, and my uncle is a painter. No doubt this environment had a great impact on me.

-You create music albums covers, what does attract you in these projects? Does music play a huge part in your creative process?

I am convinced that music can provide a lot of power to images, as it can take it away from them. It is interesting to work with music albums! Artists and musicians have similar souls, that’s why most work I receive in that field is really inspiring. Music can be useful in the creative process, it helps empathizing with a theme, although most of the time complete silence is necessary.

-You are also known for your children‘s books illustrations. What do you like in this area?

A mysterious desire from deep inside wanted me to create something positive, bright and colorful. That’s why I illustrated ten children’s books already. I had the chance to work with authors who gave me a lot of freedom in my work, I thank them for that.

-Where do you usually find inspiration, mostly in an urban environment or in a natural one? Do you prefer searching for references on Internet or when you go outside?

Of course we can find a lot of inspiration on Internet, but what we find there is not original anymore, used too many times. It would be smarter to search for inspiration in the nature, in our lives. The forest, the beaver sitting behind the stump, the mole digging its sweet home... are an endless source of inspiration. Vilnius old town is also a wonderful place to create wonderful fantasies.

-You worked a long time as a freelance illustrator, how does it feel to be part of a team now?

Indeed, I worked as a freelancer for almost ten years. I was tired of the chaos and instability of this lifestyle. Goodname welcomed me nicely in its team with love and care. Thank you!
