Goodname’s First Time in Montreal

From November 16th to 19th, our managing director, Tomas Sabaliauskas, was in Montreal attending to the Mega+Migs conference, one of the most important events regarding video games in Canada. For the first time, two big occasions became one. The Montreal Expo Gaming Arcade, a public event with many activities, and the Montreal International Game Summit, a B2B2C meeting gathering 3000 professionals every year. Located in the port of Montreal with a wonderful view on the skyscrapers covered with snow, what better conditions could you have to work?

During his few days, Tomas had meetings with a lot of potential clients for 2020 that made him realize the density of indie developers in Montreal and the Quebec region (we will talk about this phenomenon in another post). The only bad point was that all the conferences were in French. Indeed, most of attendees were from this French-speaking region of Canada or from France. Nevertheless, having a simple cup of coffee can bring you several business cards… Going to fairs is always a good experience!

On Monday and Tuesday, MEGA part was closed to public so professionals could also discover games and participate in conferences. Tomas had the chance to try several of them. Here are a few titles that stood out from the crowd:

“Citywars savage” is a PC indie game which can be described as WoW meets Minecraft. Game is made by two friends from Montreal and should be fully released in December 2019.

“Lemnis gate” by Ratloop Games has an innovative gameplay that allows up to four players to play together in an evolving time loop… You can play with only one screen and one controller. Intriguing! We can’t wait to play it at home!
